“DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTEE TO LAKE SIMCOE CLEAN-UP COMMITTEE”

BROCK TOWNSHIP Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable John Baird, Minister of the Environment, today announced the addition of Brock Township resident Keith Shier, to the Committee to Protect and Preserve the Environment of Lake Simcoe (PROPEL).

The committee is providing advice to the Minister of the Environment in distributing the $30 million in funding announced in Budget 2007 to protect and clean up Lake Simcoe ’s environment.

A former Mayor of Brock Township, Keith Shier also previously served on the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority, as a Grant Review Team member for the Trillium Foundation, and was a founder of the Beaverton District Conservation Club.

“Our Government believes that clean, safe and secure water is something all Canadians should have the right to enjoy,” said Minister Baird.  “That was why I was pleased to announce the creation of the PROPEL committee in October 2007.  Keith Shier is a strong addition to that team.  The valuable work of this committee has been significant in supporting the Government’s work to ensure the clean up and protection of Lake Simcoe ’s continues to move forward.”

I'm pleased to be able to work with a community leader such as Mr. Shier," said Devolin.  "I believe it represents one more example of our government's commitment to clean up Lake Simcoe"
