DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $25,000 IN FUNDING FOR
NEW HORIZONS PROJECTS
LINDSAY: Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy Minister of State (Seniors), today announced $25,000 in funding to the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
The money will be used for the Health Unit’s Age Friendly program in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The endeavour will allow seniors to asses the age-friendliness of Kawartha Lakes and identify strengths and gaps that will create an environment for safe, active, positive aging, thereby raising community awareness of seniors' issues.
“The Government of Canada is committed to the well-being of seniors in my riding and across the country,” said Devolin. “This project will promote dialogue and allow seniors share their skills, experience and wisdom to others while staying involved in their community."
“The staff of the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit should be commended for their hard work in the communities they serve as this area is a better place because of them,” stated Devolin.
NHSP provides grants to support a range of community-based projects across Canada that encourage seniors to contribute to their communities through social participation and active living. Projects support broad national objectives and regional priorities.
