DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $121,595 FOR THE LINDSAY CENTRAL
EXHIBITION
LINDSAY – Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, today announced the Government of Canada’s investment of $121,595 to support the Lindsay Central Exhibition as part of the Marquee Tourism Events Program.
“This is exciting news for all involved with the Lindsay Central Exhibition,” said Devolin. “The funding from the Marquee Tourism Events Program highlights our government’s recognition of the real impact this festival has on the visitor economy.”
“The Lindsay Agricultural Society is thrilled that Industry Canada has recognized the importance of the Lindsay Central Exhibition and its impact on the local economy,” said General Manager Andy Letham. “By partnering with our organization, they have made the commitment to help improve local tourism initiatives. We look forward to their continued support.”
Lindsay Central Exhibition is the single largest event in the City of Kawartha Lakes. For 155 years, people have come from all over North America to enjoy the 5 day festival of concerts, rides, derby’s, horse pulls, agricultural shows, and award winning animals. The impact on the local economy and tourism has proven to be invaluable.
With the investment from Industry Canada, the Lindsay Agricultural Society was able to enhance its marketing efforts with full color brochures, expanded coverage in tourism media outlets, increase their programming with a pre-fair concert and high end entertainment, and purchase new tables and chairs for our all year round venues.
The Marquee Tourism Events Program is one of several tourism-related programs announced in Canada’s Economic Action Plan. These programs provide measures to support Canada’s economy, stimulate the growth of tourism and contribute to the development of Canada’s visitor economy over the long term.
