DEVOLIN CELEBRATES THE REMOVAL OF BARRIERS TO ACCESSIBILTY IN KINMOUNT

KINMOUNT — Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today celebrated the completion of a project by the Kinmount Committee for Planning & Economic Development funded through the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF).

“The Government of Canada is breaking down barriers and improving accessibility across the country to improve the quality of life of Canadians with disabilities,” said Devolin. “This project will help bring the community together by making Kinmount Heritage Park more accessible to people with disabilities.”

The EAF contribution of $47,000 helped the Kinmount Committee for Planning & Economic Development complete renovations to Kinmount Heritage Park to make it more accessible for people with disabilities. EAF funding to the Kinmount Committee for Planning & Economic Development was announced on September 5, 2008.

The EAF is part of a $45-million, three-year commitment to expand opportunities for people with disabilities and improve accessibility across Canada. The goal of the EAF is to promote vibrant communities that benefit from the participation of people with varying abilities in everyday life activities.

The program supports community-based projects that improve accessibility, reduce barriers and enable Canadians, regardless of physical ability, to participate in and contribute to their communities and the economy.
