DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $5,000 IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL SKI RACING CLUB

BETHANY – Local MP Barry Devolin on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister for FedNor announced a $5000 financial contribution to the Devil’s Elbow Ski Racing Club through Alpine Ontario.

The funds were part of the most recent period of Eastern Ontario Development Program funding and they were administered by the Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation (KLCFDC), on behalf of Industry Canada/ FedNor.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my congratulations to the KLCFDC Board of Directors for supporting this initiative,” said Devolin. “By investing in the newest standards of safety fencing and improved race management equipment, it enables this club to continue delivering its quality ski racing program, enhancing its reputation, expanding the membership base and hosting quality events.”

“This further entrenches the club within the alpine community, as well as creating an even more attractive—and safer—race facility. This is a positive development for the area,” said Devolin.

“Our Board of Directors supported this initiative because given the size of the club’s existing membership, the number of visitors to the area competing in the sanctioned alpine events held here, and the typical expenditures by both members and visitors, it provides Kawartha Lakes with an estimated economic impact of over $200,000.00,” said Mark Knoester, Vice Chair of the KLCFDC. “The improvements will also help position the club to potentially host larger events, allowing the club to grow its reputation for offering a first class program at a reasonable cost; and as a result, also attracting even more members and creating an even greater economic impact for our area.”

“Devils Elbow Racing Club prides itself on offering one of the lowest cost alpine racing programs in Ontario,” explained Greg Taylor on behalf of Devil’s Elbow Racing Club. “Although comparatively affordable, we deliver a quality program that attains a high level of achievement.”
