DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $7 MILLION FOR THE FENELON FALLS RECREATION COMPLEX
FENELON FALLS – Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable John Baird, Canada’s Transport, Infrastructure and Communities Minister, and the Honourable George Smitherman, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, today announced a total of $7 million for the Fenelon Falls Recreation Complex.
Communities across Ontario will benefit from joint federal-provincial investments in public infrastructure of close to $1 billion. The funding announced today will enable over 200 infrastructure projects to break ground in Ontario creating jobs when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.
“Building a strong and healthy country starts at the community level,” said Devolin. “In the midst of economic uncertainty, these strategic investments show that our government is taking quick and robust action to boost our economy and help create a better future for Ontarians as well as Canadians.”
“I’d like to thank all the volunteers and community groups who threw their blood, sweat and tears into this project and bringing it to reality,” said Devolin. “I’d also like to thank City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor Ric McGee and Councillors Doug Elmslie and Stephen Strangway for their ongoing support for this new building. It will certainly benefit the residents of the Fenelon area for years to come.”
“The short term economic benefits of a $10.5 million project will benefit our local economy,” said City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor Ric McGee. “The long term benefits of a facility that can better meet the needs of local residents and attract more visitors to the community all year round will mean more prosperity for this area.”
“We’re creating jobs for families and making our communities stronger by investing in infrastructure in rural Ontario, said Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “This is another example of how the McGuinty government is keeping Ontario moving with targeted investments that matter to people in their everyday lives.”
Under the Communities Component of Building Canada, the federal and provincial governments provide up to two-thirds of the funding for eligible project costs.
