DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $1,060 FOR COBOCONK CENOTAPH RENOVATION

COBOCONK – Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs announced today $1,060 to help restore the Coboconk Cenotaph.

The Cenotaph, which commemorates the fallen from the Coboconk area in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War, will be restored thanks to support from Veterans Affairs Canada’s Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program.

Restoration plans include repairs to loose stones, repainting and the replacement of the granite plaque.

“These cenotaphs remind us of the many sacrifices Canadians have made for the freedom we enjoy today,” said Devolin. “The Coboconk Cenotaph is a touching symbol of conflicts past and present.”

The restored Coboconk Cenotaph will provide the local citizens with a place to honour all of Canada’s service men and women,” said Minister Thompson.

The Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program helps communities across Canada to preserve the memory of those who have served our country. Through partnerships with community groups and local organizations, the cenotaphs and monuments honouring Veterans, Canada’s war dead and significant events, are maintained with the standard of care and dignity that they deserve.
