One Mile Challenge and KL5K for the United Way
On Friday September 10 at 6:30pm, I will host the first annual One Mile Challenge and Kawartha Lakes 5K at the Lindsay Fairgrounds. The goal of these two events is to raise money for the United Way of Kawartha Lakes while encouraging physical activity for all ages.
The One Mile Challenge will be a fun event geared to two groups - kids running and adults walking one lap of the track. The KL5K, on the other hand, will be a 5 km competitive foot-race on a measured course with chip timing.
I believe that the Lindsay Fairgrounds is the perfect venue for this event. As it turns out, the perimeter road is about one mile long on a closed course. To top it off, the grandstand is the perfect spot for friends and family to view the start and finish of both events. (The One Mile Challenge will be a single lap, and the KL5K will be 3 laps.)
The One Mile Challenge is free for students 17 years of age and under. For adults, we are asking for a donation of $20 or more to the United Way. The first 200 people to cross the line will get an official Finishers Medal.
The KL5K will be $35, and $25 for those over 60 or under 18. Go online early to be one of the first 100 registrants (at www.runningroom.com) and receive a free, long-sleeve technical race T-shirt!
As an added bonus, every participant over 18 years of age in the One Mile Challenge and KL5K will be entered into a draw for two Economy Class return tickets for travel to any Air Canada scheduled destination in North America including Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Our goal is to treat every runner and walker to a first class experience. I hope you will participate in one of the events. The One Mile Challenge, in particular, will be a great family event. (Molly, George, Ursula and I will be there.)
Let's have fun and get fit, while also helping our community through the United Way. If you have any questions, please contact my office at (705) 324-2400. Hope to see you on September 10th!
